Youth Sports Matter

~ Youth Sports Matter ~ You hear it often “youth sports don’t matter” or “sports mean nothing until they get to high school”. I will certainly concede that no scholarships will be handed out for youth sports and that success or failure at a young age does not define the player’s floor nor their ceiling, but they do matter.

They matter to the new kid in town who instantly makes friends, they matter to the kid who learns to compete, they matter to the shy kid who is coaxed out of their shell, they matter to the kid from a broken home who is given a sanctuary, they matter to the kid who learns to work hard for something they want, they matter to every kid who is taught that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

They matter to the kid who learns to be a leader, they matter to the kid that is dealing with the loss of a loved one, they matter to every kid who is learning to be a good teammate, they matter to the kid who needed discipline, they matter to the kid who finds a coach that wholeheartedly believes in them, they matter to the timid kid who is gaining self-confidence every day, they matter to the kid who is learning to deal with failure, they matter to the kid who finds lifelong friends, they matter to the kid who learns to be gracious in both victory and defeat.

They matter to the kid who has fond sports memories despite never playing in high school, they matter to every kid who has ever had fun in youth sports. They matter to the family who creates unforgettable memories, they matter to the family that now have a village that loves their kids as if they were their own, they matter to the family who despite life’s struggles has a couple hours a week to let their guard down, they matter to the family who is dealing with an illness and find a large group ready to support them, they matter to the family who find best friends, they matter to the family who had a community support them in their new venture, they matter to the family who get to watch their child live their best life.

They matter to our coaches who love their players, past and present, and feels blessed to be a part of all of the above. Youth sports do matter, the people matter and helping to make a difference in kid’s lives MATTERS!!!
